One of the best parts of summer is that everything slows down just a bit. Even the Los Angeles freeways feel lighter, which is a stress relief all on its own. Vacation season in full swing. We spend more time outdoors. Parks, beaches, lakes, and patio replaces time on the couch. Summer invites us to savor more moments and create intentional routines.

This is the perfect season to reset and refresh your self-care habits so you can look and feel your best. And, you can age well. Let’s explore your ultimate self-love summer routine.

Hydrate Like Your Health Depends on It (Because It Does)

With all the outdoor adventures ahead, hydration must be top of mind. Of all the wonderful places to visit, don’t add urgent care or ER to the list. Drinking plenty of water is a gift to your entire body:

  • Regulates your body temperature, essential in triple-digit heat
  • Helps prevent dehydration and heatstroke
  • Keeps dizziness and annoying headaches to a minimum
  • Aids in weight management
  • Boosts brain function and clarity
  • Supports glowing, healthy skin

If you struggle with water intake, try infusing your water with cucumber, lemon, or mint for a refreshing twist.

Make SPF Your Daily Ritual

I’ll never tire of talking about sunscreen. It’s one of the simplest and most powerful ways to age well. Apply SPF every single day between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m Wear sunscreen even if you’re just running errands. Wearing a hat helps, too. However, never let that be a substitute for a broad spectrum sunscreen.

The sun is the #1 factor of premature aging. Daily sunscreen can help your skin thrive today and age well tomorrow.

Get Outdoors and De-Stress Naturally

Time in nature isn’t just relaxing, it’s restorative. It lowers stress, improves mood, and even reduces blood pressure and cortisol levels. Chronic stress can lead to:

  • Anxiety, sleep disruptions, and burnout
  • Weakened immunity
  • Heart issues and inflammation
  • Skin issues like breakouts, rosacea, or dry patches

This summer, let’s be intentional about self-love practices. Take early morning or evening walks, read on your patio, explore local gardens, or enjoy a picnic. Your nervous system (and your skin) will thank you.

Eat Mindfully with the Season

There’s something about summer that nudges us to eat fresher. Let’s lean into that with a few simple shifts:

  • Swap refined sugar for nature’s candy—fresh berries, melons, and citrus
  • Grill lean proteins like chicken and fish
  • Trade sandwich bread for lettuce wraps
  • Add in more colorful veggies, raw or grilled

These small choices make a big difference over time. You discover a healthier, leaner body. Bonus: your skin’s texture and glow will .

Move with Joy

Exercise doesn’t need to be limited to summer. The routies need not be rigid. Make it fun and family-friendly. Try dance challenges or cycling. Model the importance of exercise to the younger generation. As they mimic you, they will age well, too. The key is consistency. When you sprinkle in the fun, it makes it easier to come back again and again.

Movement promotes collagen production, supports your heart, and boosts mood. Remember, the activity you enjoy today contributes to how you age tomorrow.

Never Skip the Facials

I know summer gets busy with family, friends, concerts in the park, and all the fun things. However, our skincare deserves to be treated well. This is a great time to switch to lighter formulas that still support your skin barrier.
