Hi, I’m Evelyn Abernathy, the face behind Purple Essence By Evelyn and your go-to skincare educator! My passion? Teaching women how to age well with confidence—because glowing, healthy skin isn’t just about looking good; it’s about feeling beautiful at every stage of life.

I live in a Los Angeles suburb with my husband of 30 years, our adult daughter, and my mom. I am a caregiver for my husband, and do light caregiving for my mom. My daughter is my best friend. Together, we enjoy southern California beaches, museums, art galleries, lectures, and live theater.

At heart, I’m a homebody who loves Hallmark movies, reading, listening to podcasts, and DIY self-care. Oh, and full disclosure—I absolutely kill plants. So you’d do better gifting me cut flowers. I adore those. But I do love baking! My peanut butter bon-bons are amazing. I know, it’s not actually a baked item, but it gets requests. I’ve been on a mission to make the best chocolate chip cookies ever.

Most people consider me to be an extrovert. I think it’s because I love getting to know people. So that doesn’t classify me as an introvert, either. My social style is really in the middle, an ambivert. I grew up as an US Army brat. That may be why learning about people from other cultures interests me. But I am terrible with learning the language.

A Little More About Me

I’m a Nordstrom lover, a tea-obsessed chocoholic, and a former private school teacher. I was also privileged to homeschool my daughter from K-12. Jafra has been part of my life for 24+ years, and I love bringing value to my audience through blogging, sharing skincare tips, and helping women understand how to age well with the right products and daily habits.

What Keeps Me Inspired?

• Time with God – He loves me fully and completely. Thank God He’s patient with me.
• Coffee/tea dates with friends (or sometimes breakfast/lunch/dinner)– Nothing beats good conversations and building intimate relationships.
• The beach – The waves, the peace, the beauty, the sound, the smell – they all reflect the majesty of God.

Aging well isn’t just about using the right skincare—though that’s a huge part of it! It’s also about embracing self-care, staying positive, and making time for what brings you joy. That’s why I focus on:

I also emphasize the importance of healthy eating, restful sleep, and regular exercise. These daily habits are key to aging well and maintaining long-term wellness. Aging well is a holistic lifestyle. It’s a mindshift. I’d love to see you active and thriving in your 90s and beyond.
