If there’s no little ones in your home this season, the magic of Christmas may seem to have diminished. Don’t let the light burn out. Remember, this is the time to reflect and rejoice that the God of Heaven came down to be with us. Immanuel. God with us. That’s the celebration.
But even with that, this time of year can be a crazy whirlwind. There’s so many things on the to-do list. Shopping. Office parties. Family events. Baking. And. And. And. Please spend time taking care of yourself. Here are a few tips.
5 Minutes of Quiet
Are you a coffee drinker or do you prefer tea, like me? I discovered Trader Joe’s non-dairy oat creamer in gingerbread flavor. It dresses up my tea to make it more festive. Of course, you can also enjoy a good cup of hot cocoa or eggnog. ‘Tis the season, right?
Seasonal Aromatherapy
Cinnamon, tree pine, cloves, ginger, and peppermint. All are popular scents this time of year. A holiday candle or incense is an easy way to create the aromatherapy. I prefer the organic approach of getting this fragrant experience. You can bake cookies (especially gingerbread). Or you can make a Christmas potpourri. It’s so simple. Here’s how I make mine:
- Combine fresh cranberries, sliced oranges, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and rosemary in a pot of water.
- Bring to a slow boil, then simmer for the rest of the day.
Magic of Christmas Journaling
I am the worse at keeping a journal beyond a couple of days. But if that’s your vibe, reflect daily on something that brought a smile to your face or put Christmas magic in your heart. It would be fun to keep the same journal year after year to see all the joyful memoirs. That sounds amazing. I wish I was a person who could be consistent with journaling.
Remember to Care for Your Skin
Never, ever skip your skincare routine. Even in these busy days, take a few moments to cleanse, moisturize, and use sunscreen during the day. If you’re too tired for the serums, masks, or other supplements, it’s okay to skip them for a few weeks. But definitely resume the full aging well routine in January.
Don’t forget that your skin goes beyond your face, throat, and décolletage. During this dry season, take care of the rest of your body, too.
Get Out!
Although the air may be crisp, get outdoors for just a bit. Exercise, sun, and fresh air are still essential this time of year. Bundle up and get out to refresh your mind and body.
Your turn. My joy is knowing that you are enjoying the magic of Christmas. Tell me which of these ideas resonate with you most. Which will you try today? This week? Let me know. I enjoy hearing how you use my ideas.
