Eight Ways to Age Well

My philosophy is that there’s no such thing as anti-aging. As long as you have birthdays, you will age. I use what I believe is the best skincare available infused with Royal Jelly, but I do not expect my skin at 70 to look like a 25 year-old. However, we can have beautiful, radiant, healthy head-to-toe skin and feel confident.

SUN. This is the number one cause of aging. All year we are exposed to its rays. If not the direct sunlight, it reflects off snow, water, sand, and through clouds. Use a broad-spectrum SPF. The higher the number, the longer you can stay in the sun. My favorite is Defy Multi-Performance Age Protector Broad Spectrum SPF 50.

SLEEP. Not only should you try for 7 – 8 hours to promote cell regeneration, you should be mindful of your position. Side and stomach sleepers will develop habitual lines (lines formed by our habit). Back sleeping helps prevent wrinkles, eases neck and back pain, fights acid reflux, and helps prevent sagging breasts. Should you want to continue side or stomach sleeping, invest in a silk or satin pillowcase.

FUNNY FACES. Circling back to those habitual lines. Are you squinting in the sun? Wear sunglasses. Keep the skin around the eyes well hydrated. Are you a smoker or drink with straws? Ditch the habit or your skin around the upper lip will pay the price.

VITAMINS and Healthy Eating. Eat B12-enriched foods to support your immune system. Reduce your salt intake. Sodium retains water which causes puffiness, especially around the eyes. Limit the amount of sugar you eat. This will also help with inflammation.

STOP crash dieting. The constant stretching and tightening will break down the elasticity of your skin. Consider your diet as eating habits. Make a lifestyle change to eat better everyday.

EXERCISE. Cardio helps the heart beat faster and gets more oxygen to your body. It’s an overall healthy habit to form.

WATER. Hydrate with 8 glasses or 1/2 your weight in ounces. Limit alcohol consumption, which dehydrates the body.

TAKE care of skin. 80% of aging skin is preventable. It’s the only skin we will ever have. No do-overs. There’s a saying in my industry. At 20 you have the skin you’re born with. At 40 you have the skin you worked for . At 60 you have the skin you deserve. Have no regrets regarding your skin as you age.
