This is an exciting time for many households. It’s prom and high school graduation season. For so many, excitement (and maybe a bit of anxiety, too) is running through the mind of parents and students entering the college life. So much anticipation for a bright future. However, as a skincare educator, here is something I noticed over the years with college students: the rise of acne. Here is how to make the clear smart college choice.
The Problem
This dilemma first presented itself to me when one of my teen clients went to college. During her high school years, her skin was flawless using JAFRA’s skincare line. In her first year of college, she developed severe acne. Was it the climate difference moving from California to Massachusetts? I looked into that. When she returned home for breaks, her skin would “magically” improve. After trial and error, studies and research, I discovered the culprit. STRESS.
The life of college students dramatically shifts. No longer are the parents hands-on with everything. Suddenly, the student has to manage meal plans, laundry, cleaning, making new friends, finances, living away from home, and much more intense field of studies. Stress will have a release. Oftentimes, it shows itself in acne. What should you do?
The Solution
There are a few solutions to beat acne and achieve clear skin. Here are a couple recommendations.
Learn how to control stress. The techniques will be useful for a lifetime. Incorporating some level of exercise, taking 15-minute power naps, and deep breathing can make a huge difference. Using DIY spa products for restoration and calmness is beneficial. The Ginger and Sea Salt Body Rub does just that. Bonus is that it exfoliates and conditions the body, too. Anytime the student (or anyone) is feeling pressure, I recommend that they rub a bit of the product on the wrists and breathe it in. Ahh…it makes a difference. I do the same with our SPA Scalp Massage and Hair Treatment. It doubles as a fabulous hair conditioner.
Obviously, we have an acne skincare system. You may consider preventive measures by switching to the affordable necessity bundle if you do not want to invest in the entire regimen. I get it, college is expensive. Whether you purchase the bundle or continue what you are currently using, I suggest adding the blemish spot treatment. I keep one in my skincare bag, too.
The Conclusion
College life opens an endless world of possibilities. Every decision made leads to a new and exciting path. Not everyone has full confidence to do any of them with acne. Making the clear smart college choice can make a huge difference.
