25 Summer Self-love Activities to Try (That Feed Your Soul)

You know how summer feels like a fresh start? The sunshine just invites us to slow down, take care of ourselves, and live a little lighter. I wanted to share some of my favorite summer self-love ideas with you—things I’ve tried, things I want to try again, and a few that are just calling my name.

These are soulful, joyful, sometimes silly—but always meaningful ways to care for your body, mind, and spirit. This isn’t a checklist. It’s a choose-what-fits-you kind of list. So let’s get into it…

Solo Self-Care Moments

1. Backyard Brunch (for One!)
Yes, it’s a solo date—but it’s not lonely. Dress up with the works—hat, jewelry, a little makeup if you’d like. Set out your favorite tea and a few treats. Play your favorite music. Invite your own company. You’ll be surprised how comforting it is to just be with yourself.
If you’re a woman of faith like me, bring your Bible and look up scriptures that remind you how loved you are. Sometimes I whisper to myself: Live life loved—because you are.

2. Create Your Summer Soundtrack
I’ve made playlists on YouTube and now on Spotify—choose your favorite platform and curate your own summer vibe. Add songs that make you feel free, fierce, and full of joy. You can even make a new one every season!

3. Picnic & Journal Outside
Lay out a blanket at the park, beach, or right in your backyard. Journal anything that brings you pleasure—dreams, prayers, a few doodles. And don’t skip the SPF. Apply at least 15 minutes before heading out!

4. Sunrise or Sunset Beach Walks
These are my beach dates with Jesus. Bare feet in the sand, fresh air, and that soul-deep feeling of being grounded and guided. If you’re near the water, even once a month, take advantage.

Move Your Beautiful Body

5. Try a Water Adventure
I haven’t tried jet skiing or surfing yet. But maybe one day! I have kayaked and canoed, and let me tell you: it’s a workout, but so much fun.Perhaps I’ll try paddleboarding next. Not your thing? A good old-fashioned swim or float works too.

6. Hike or Take a Nature Walk
Nothing extreme for me. I like the slower trails where I can breathe, snack, and take photos. But if you’re up for rocky terrain and long distances, go for it! Either way, being in nature is always healing.

7. Join (or Start) a Walking Club
We were never meant to do life alone. Walking with others gives us both movement and community. Both help us to age well. You don’t have to be fast; just consistent and connected.

8. Gardening (or Visiting Gardens)
My plants don’t always thrive, but I still love being surrounded by flowers. If gardening doesn’t light you up, go visit a botanical garden or bring home a bouquet. There’s beauty in letting someone else do the planting.

9. Dance Like No One’s Watching
Seriously, put on your playlist and just move! Joy doesn’t need to be choreographed. Or join a local salsa, ballroom, or line dancing class. Let your body express itself.

10. Go on a Summer Photo Walk
I love looking at everyday things through a camera lens because it helps me slow down and notice. Pick a theme for each walk: colors, birds, doors, vehicles. Bonus idea: create a little scrapbook or digital album of your finds.

Slow Your Pace

11. Join a Book Club (or Create a Reading Nook)
Books feed the mind. Whether you’re reading with friends or curled up in your own cozy corner, dive into stories that lift you up and stretch your perspective.

12. Birdwatch (or Kitty Watch)
I have five stray kittens that love my patio. I could watch them play for hours. But bird watching is fun, too. Grab a notebook and sketch what you see. It’s meditative and sweet.

13. Visit a Museum or Gallery
Go on a culture date with yourself or a friend. Learn something new. Appreciate beauty. Feed your brain and your spirit at the same time.

14. Learn Something Musical
Always wanted to play the guitar, piano, or even the ukulele? Start small. Embrace YouTube, apps, and local classes. There are so many ways to begin. Or join a choir. Or go to a concert. Music heals and improves the brain.

Fun with Friends

15. Attend an Outdoor Concert
Summer tunes under the stars? Yes, please. I’m lucky that my surrounding cities host concerts at parks, gardens, and beaches. Grab your girlfriends, bring a picnic, and sing along!

16. Go to an Outdoor Movie Night
Soak in the summer breeze and a favorite flick. Lots of cities offer free or low-cost movie nights. It’s nostalgic and low-key fun.

17. Host a Backyard Tea Party
Remember that brunch for one? Now flip the script and invite your girls! Keep it simple. Iced teas, fruit-infused water, and finger sandwiches will do. You can even go potluck style.

18. Be a Local Tourist
Explore your city (or one nearby) like it’s your first time. Eat at a mom-and-pop diner. Visit a local museum. If budget allows, spend the night in a local hotel and turn it into a staycation.

19. Go Camping (or Glamping!)
Confession: I’m no longer a camper. I prefer a luxury hotel. Yup. I’m royal through and through. But if camping is your jam, plan a trip and enjoy the nature around you.

20. Road Trip With Friends
Whether it’s a day trip or an overnight, the laughter and bonding are priceless. Turn up the music and enjoy the ride.

21. Grown-Women Slumber Party
Yes, we still get to do this! Snacks, skincare, storytelling, and staying up late with your best girlfriends.
You may even want to snag my spa and skincare products for everyone to enjoy. It’s a fabulous DIY spa experience—and one your friends will talk about for weeks. Want samples for all to enjoy? Just ask.

22. Paint & Sip Night
Channel your inner artist with a little creativity and conversation. Whether it’s a girls’ night out or a date night, it’s just fun.

23. Host a Swap Party
Pick a theme—books, accessories, home goods—and trade treasures with your circle. You’ll leave with “new to you” goodies and lots of laughs.

24. Try a Cooking Class (or Host One!)
Have a few friends bring ingredients for their signature dish. Cook together and prep enough for everyone to take meals home. Make it themed: comfort food, desserts, or even a low-sugar night if you’re watching your wellness like I am.
