How to Store Fragrance and Fun Uses for Them

I love fragrances for so many reasons. They are Fun. Uplifting. Aromatherapeutic. So why stop at just wearing the scent on your body? Here are other suggestions. But first, let’s chat about storing them properly.

Proper Fragrance Storage

Most people store perfumes and colognes in the bathroom or dresser tops. However, for the scent to last longer, they should be stored in the original box and in a cool, dark place away from windows. Once sprayed, use by the date on the back of the packaging (see video below). With every spray, oxygen is entered into the bottle and begins to breakdown its structure.

Ways of Using Fragrances

Stationery. There’s a lost art of lettering writing. If you are pre internet and text messaging, you may recall the days of sending letters in cursive handwriting. Do your remember the joy of receiving a message in your actual home mailbox instead of bills? If the recipient was a good friend or significant person in your life, you may have sprayed the letter before sealing it in an envelope. I certainly did. There’s something magical about receiving such correspondence.

Scenting Clothes. A fun way of keeping your tee shirts, undies, and more smelling fresh, is to spray wrapping tissue paper with your favorite scent and lining your dresser drawers with it. For quick change outs once the fragrance dissipates, add the fragrance to cotton balls and respray them as needed. And don’t stop there. Line linen closets and bedroom closets, too.

Bedding. How relaxing to spray pillowcases and sheets with a scent you love. Lavender and Chamomile is one of my favorite for a good night’s sleep. When my husband was working late into the night, I would spray his side of the bed with one of his colognes.

Dryer Sheet Replacement. Folding laundry will be so much nicer when a desired fragrance is on it. Simply spray a handkerchief with perfume and include it in the dryer with your load.

Air Freshener. Although I diffuse essential oils throughout the home, I still like to use a favorite perfume or cologne to combat any undesirable odor that may enter the home. It’s nice than the traditional air freshener and without the chemicals and toxins. And I always keep a bottle of fragrance on my desk to spray into the air for a quick pick-me-up or just to have a wonderful uplifting scent surrounding me.

Car Freshener. Have you considered replacing those scented pine trees with fragrance in your car? I enjoy using a masculine scent in my vehicle.

Customize a Body Lotion. Scoop a one-time use amount of your favorite unscented body lotion onto a dish. Spray a few squirts of the fragrance you will wear for the day. Fragrance layering, wearing one or more products of the scent, keeps the lingering so much longer.

Conclusion

Be creative with your fragrances. Don’t put yourself in a box and limit to just applying to your skin. Your scents create an atmosphere in the home. Explore and enjoy.
